Alexander’s mom has a chance for promotion at the book publishing company where she works, but when a misprint occurs in a book that Dick Van Dyke is scheduled to read to kids, she is going to need some support. He wants a girl he likes, Becky, to attend, but it doesn’t look promising. Alexander is preparing for his 12th birthday party, but another kid at school is having just about every cool thing possible at his party on the same night and Alexander is down to one friend attending his event. Alexander’s dad is an unemployed aerospace expert who winds up with an interview for a video game design company but chaotic events lead him to take baby Trevor with him. His brother Anthony is getting ready for his road test and the junior prom with his girlfriend, his sister Emily is preparing for the lead role in her high school musical “Peter Pan,” and baby Trevor gets upset when his bumblebee pacifier is accidentally destroyed in the garbage disposal by Alexander. Life is a fast-paced whirlwind for Alexander and his siblings and parents. The film features stars Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner as Ben and Kelly Cooper, and young Ed Oxenbould as their son Alexander. My son is still a little young to laugh at the content of the things that happen to Alexander but I remember my daughter when she was little used to find it a really funny book and it was one of my favourites when I was little too.“Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” brings to energetic life the book written by Judith Viorst upon which this movie is based. Such a nice book to talk about having a bad day and reminding children that tomorrow is another day and things will be better. His mum however let him know that everyone has bad days even in Timbuktu. It is such a great story about a little boy who is having a really terrible day, from gum in his hair, and nothing nice in his lunch box to getting wet in a puddle and seeing kissing on TV it really was a really bad day for poor Alexander who really wished he was in Timbuktu. It is quite a long story but as I read it with that sulky kid voice my son will sit and listen to the whole book no problems. This particular book was one of mine from when I was a young girl that I had given to my daughter when she was young. Since Cai was born 18 months ago we have been getting back into picture books that my daughter had long grown out of, it has been so much fun going back through all the old books as well as collecting some new ones.
